Malaria Consortium is recruiting for a Research Officer to join our team in Lomé - Togo.

The successful candidate will have:

                    Research contributions (70%)

  • Coordinate the day-to-day technical preparations, implementation, and evaluation of MC's research activities in Togo.
  • Provide technical input to the implementation of research activities in line with the Malaria Consortium programme’s level research strategy and plan

             Project management (10%)

  • Contribute to the management of all M&E and research project resources (HR, Logistics, Finance).
  • Manage and coordinate research activities.

Capacity building in operational research (15%)

  • Participate in building project capacity in operational research, mainly in the NMCP but also where appropriate within project partner organisations.
  • Support the project team in capacity building efforts to strengthen both individual and institutional capacities within district health teams, communities, the NMCP and other partners.

              External Representation (5%)

  • Participate in national or regional technical working groups as relevant.
  • participate in technical discussions and strategic planning meetings of the project technical team.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Medical background
  • Advanced degree in public health, epidemiology, statistics, or similar field.
  • Substantial experience working in a research role with an excellent understanding of surveillance and operational research approaches.
  • Experience of developing research protocols and data collection tools.
  • Experience of implementing research activities in the field
  • Experience in collecting and analysing research data.
  • Good qualitative and quantitative data analysis skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in survey design, implementation, analysis, and report-writing.
  • Previous experience in the public health sector in sub-Saharan African countries, particularly Togo.
  • Experience in setting up standards of quality as well as internal quality assurance mechanisms.
  • Organisational and project management skills
  • Good writing skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Fluency English
  • Ability to travel both within Togo (particularly to the Regions of Savanes, Kara and Centrale) and internationally.

              Work-based skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively on a team, particularly with Ministries of Health and/or other government sectors and partners.
  • Proven ability in transferring skills, particularly working with government and non-government colleagues.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Results-oriented attitude to work.
  • Expert competency level in reviewing, understanding and synthesising data for sharing with wider audiences.
  • Practical organisational skills with the ability to manage a fluctuating workload, prioritise and re-prioritise when necessary and meet tight deadlines.
  • Able to travel to project regions for up to one week at a time to oversee research activities or other project activities.
  • Excellent command of English and French with exceptional writing and communication skills and the ability to present information in clear, concise, and compelling ways.
  • Computer literacy, including high degree of skills in MS Office and Stata.

This role is conditional of Malaria Consortium securing funding for this role.  

Due to the nature of this role we will be reviewing applications on an ongoing basis and the role might be filled and closed before the closing date. Early applications are encouraged. The closing date is July 9, at 12 PM.

This is a fixed term contract for the period of 8 months.
