Malaria Consortium is recruiting for a Policy and Advocacy Manager to join our team. Based in either Kampala, Uganda, or Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the Policy and Advocacy Manager leads on Malaria Consortium’s global advocacy, ensuring the organisation has a strong voice on key issues and drives change in awareness and policies related to our work.  

The role is responsible for driving forward strategic engagement and alliances in the UK, Africa and Asia, growing public and private sector collaboration for greater impact around malaria and other diseases. The role will represent Malaria Consortium within high level networks and fora, including UK parliamentary advocacy, national/regional working groups and with global public health agencies, including WHO and the African Union.   

The Policy and Advocacy Manager is responsible for helping to grow critical partnerships that will advance Malaria Consortium’s work around malaria and other targeted diseases and bring about change. The role will also collaborate with country and research teams to drive uptake of Malaria Consortium’s implementation research into national and global policies.  

The successful candidate will have:

  • Educated to degree level or above in a relevant field, or equivalent relevant work experience
  • A strong communicator with experience of working to influence policy change
  • Excellent knowledge of international development and development policy frameworks, such as aid effectiveness mechanisms, SDG frameworks, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of major trends and current issues in global health and policy in an international development context, with specific knowledge of African health policy
  • Extensive experience of external representation in networks and building strong working relationships with a range of stakeholders
  • Strong knowledge of major bilateral, multilateral and philanthropic donors and their funding interests/priorities
  • Strong experience of event organisation and management
  • Strong experience of managing and monitoring donor relations
  • Strong experience of monitoring and evaluating advocacy activities for impact
  • Good understanding of using social media for outreach
  • Good experience of working with geographically dispersed teams
  • It is desirable that the postholder will have right to work in the location this role is advertise
